Goin’ a Bit Batty-PPA60

I’m always goin’ batty during the Halloween season!

Wicked

Are you ready for another Pals Paper Arts Inspiration Challenge? I am and I really enjoy making this Halloween one!  This is my card for the PPA60 – Halloween Inspiration Challenge this week.

This card measures 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ (scored and folded @ 4-1/4″).  It has a top fold and I rounded all the corners to repeat the rounded scallop look throughout the card.  The smooth card stock colors are  from my Stampin’ Up! color stash and are as follows:  Basic Gray (card base), Old Olive (mat) and Basic Black (flower base).  The fun edge treatment is from a scrap of retired Designer Series Paper titled Cast-A-Spell.

I was looking for a reason to use my Stampin’ Up! Designer Jewels-Black Flourish and this challenge was the perfect opportunity.  I just LOVE these gems!  I adhered these gorgeous glitzy gems around the pretty Waffle Paper flower with a Gimmer Brad -Silver center from the “basics” set.

The stamped images are made with Classic Ink in Basic Black using the Wicked Cool stamp set.  The Designer Series Paper is Nite Owl (#123012) and is available in the current Holiday Mini Catalog (Sept. 1, 2010-January 3, 2011).

I am in the process of editing a video tutorial on how I made this flower with the new Waffle Paper.  I hope you will check back  to see how I designed this dimensional flower. Don’t let it intimidate you because it is quite simple to do….trust me 🙂

Color Coach Creations Idea Share-River Rock

Every year I seem to dig out my old reliable tree stamp (Stamps by  Judy )which was purchased a couple years prior to becoming a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator.  Whenever I use this image  I reminisce about the story I always read to my children when they were little ones.  It was The Berenstain Bears and The Spooky Old Tree .   They loved to be scared and this tree image on today’s card certainly stands up to the challenge!  It’s a creepy one with those gnarly hands and scary trunk face.

I created this card using the Color Coach card stock selection River Rock and paired it with the wonderful Dynamic Duo choice Always Artichoke. It is a simple understated color value which I felt it would highlight my image very effectively.

This is my finished card!  I love it 🙂

My card design is based on this great sketch from Mojo Monday.

The supplies used on this card (minus tree and dot  images) are all from Stampin’ Up!  I really like the eerie feeling achieved by using  River Rock, Basic Black, Crumb Cake and Always Artichoke.

I embossed part of the tree image with Black Embossing Powder.  I colored in the tree bark with a Stampin’ Write Marker in Crumb Cake.  To give the shading effect I just made a couple more passes with the marker to get a deeper shade.

I added a touch of Stampin’ Glitter in Dazzling Diamonds to bring the eye to the hidden “face”.

The inside of the card uses images from Wicked Cool Stamp Set by Stampin’ Up!

A great substitute for the spooky tree image would be the stamp set titled House of Haunts located on page 24 of the 2010-2011 Idea Book & Catalog (#122202). This set has four great images to work with for any of your Halloween projects!  Place your order here!

Thanks for stopping by and sharing today’s card.  Try one for yourself 🙂
